Hylophorbus rufescens is a species of frog in the Microhylidae family. It is found in West Papua in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montanes.
The Fergusson Island form, which may be distinct from H. rufescens proper, is infected by the nematode Moaciria moraveci.
